| Where do I begin? I guess it's been quite some time since I've visited my Xanga, or anyone's for that matter. I've been incredibly busy with the Japanese American Citizens League. I've really enjoyed the time and effort that I've put into the organization, and I am glad to see that the youth program is well on it's way to success. My personal life is complicated, and right now, I'd rather just spend my time worrying about JACL and my new job. After graduating from UCSD last year, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in my career. I really hope to work with children some day, but right now, I'm happy with working at UCSD. In September of last year I went from a student position at the UCSD Environment, Health & Safety office to a limited appointment position. A few months later, my limited appointment converted to a full-time, permanent position. YAY! There is probably tons more that I can say, but for now, call me if you want an update! | | |

| Do guys not know the meaning of "polite"?
So I was in my office today, putting some binders away that are on a
bookshelf in a small corridor. Two of the other students in the
office (male) walked past me four times. I wouldn't mind stopping
what I'm doing so they could pass if they would just say, "Excuse
me." Granted, I did move out of their way as they would stand
behind me waiting for a quick second that they could squeeze by, but
still, I would have felt much better about it if they were more polite.
What is with society today? I enjoy my office because the
gentlemen that work here are just that, gentlemen. They open the
door, let ladies go first, hold open the elevator, use their manners,
etc. But what about OUR generation? Very few guys my age
ever do these little things. The few guys that do seem to AMAZE
me. I went out to lunch with Ryan the other day and he did all
the things that I like for a guy to do, AND MORE!!! The door,
that's definitely a plus. Letting me sit down
first...great. Served me salad first...wow. Waited for me
to finish my salad before serving the pizza...speechless. As
weird as it seems when I point out these things and get completely
amazed by them, it's not an insult. It's more of a praise.
It helps me realize that there are guys like that still out
there. There's still hope for me!!! I don't expect for a
completely old fashioned guy that does everything for me, just one that
still does some of the little things that shows me that he cares.
I was weirded out when a guy took me out on a date and opened and
closed the car door for me. It was really nice, but now a days,
it just takes too long. What does a girl do when she's waiting in
the front seat as the guy walks around to open the door? I didn't
know. It was like waiting in the doctor's office for them to
finally call your name. I thought that if I sit still, what type
of expression should I have on my face. If I smile, how am I
supposed to hold that face so long? If I look casual, it'd look
like I don't care. If I look at my watch or my nails, I'd look
impatient. I think this is one of the things that guys don't need
to do for me....I'd feel like they were my chauffeur instead of my date.
I guess my original point is that people in general could be more
polite...I just got a little sidetracked daydreaming about what would
be a perk in a relationship.
